FOOD 4 KIDS UPDATE!!!!!
The Food 4 Kids program will be starting back up the first week of February.
We will need volunteers on Tuesday, February 2 at 7:00 pm to set up Westminster Hall for the packing day. The later start time is because the Learning Hub is pivoting away from their day program to their After School Program. The kids will be in the building until 6:30 and we have to allow the staff to clean and disinfect before we come in to set up on Tuesdays.
Our first packing day will be on Wednesday, February 3 beginning at 9:30 am. The school district will pick up the bins on Thursday and distribute the food on Friday for the weekends.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity and a way to help the community but have not worked with the program, either setting up or packing bags, we would welcome you at either session. We pack approximately 1000 bags once a week to provide nutritious food for the weekend to all students on the free and reduced lunch program in Baldwin Whitehall. ALL ARE WELCOME!! (If you have any questions please call the church at 412-882-7973.)
Each and everyone of you is so very important to the program and we are hoping to see all of you that first week of February. We will continue to observe all safety precautions: Masks, hand sanitizing and social distancing as much as possible. Please STAY HOME if you do not feel well. And as always, use your own judgement about attendance.
I will continue to communicate by email any changes to the schedule. Please if you are on Facebook, watch the Whitehall Presbyterian Church's FB page.
Thanks again for all you do for Food 4 Kids! (Remember you are loved and you have been missed!)
We are so excited to continue our food initiative for students in the Baldwin-Whitehall school district. The program is called Food 4 Kids. It was created when a member of this congregation brought her concern for local childhood hunger and nutrition to the MMO team. We will be packing bags every week that will be delivered to the school every Friday. The bags will go to students on the free and reduced price lunch programs (a program that a student has to qualify for financially).
The bag will contain enough food for the student to eat meals over the weekend (when they cannot count on school breakfasts and lunches
to meet their nutritional needs). We need volunteers to help pack bags
each week at church. We are hoping to involve other area churches in the effort as well as groups like SHIM. Specific food donations will be sought as well as monetary donations. Grant money is also being sought.
We thank God for bringing this opportunity to us and pray his guidance as we seek to do His work. We are asking for your help in whatever way you can give it in this endeavor. From volunteers to pack food bags, to material and monetary donations, to your prayers, we are asking Whitehall Church to step forward in faith and help those in need around us.
We also wanted everyone (especially our WONDERFUL volunteers and financial donors) to know that the Baldwin Whitehall Education Foundation recently recognized Food for Kids with an Award for going Above and Beyond. Chris Skowronski, Nancy Gelzheiser and Cheri Densmore were honored to accept the award on behalf of the program. Instead of the planned gala, the program will be a virtual celebration in early June. We appreciate the foundation’s recognition and support and hope it will help others to find and support our program!
